The Day Grace Found Me.
There wasn’t a lightning strike.
No booming voice from heaven.
No angels with trumpets.
Just a quiet, stubborn whisper in the dark:
“Stop struggling. Listen.”

When the Old Life Cracked
By October 2022, the cracks in the wall of my old life were impossible to ignore.
Health problems.
Work stress.
Family worries.
Finances crumbling.
The weight of it all pressing down — and for once, I couldn’t charm or hustle my way through.
I hit a low point I couldn’t bounce back from.
In desperation, I did something I hadn’t done properly in years:
I prayed.
Not fancy prayers.
Not rehearsed or religious ones.
Just a raw, broken, last-ditch cry into the silence:
“Help me.”
And something — Someone — answered.
⸻
The Voice That Changed Everything
I didn’t hear it with my ears.
I heard it in my heart.
A word placed there, so clear it almost hurt:
“Stop trying to work your own way out of your problems. Stop struggling. Listen.”
Either I was losing my mind…
Or God was real.
For the first time in a lifetime of running, I stopped.
I listened.
And when I did — God moved closer.
⸻
The Long Walk Toward Jesus
I didn’t have a blinding conversion moment.
Mine was a slow, stubborn journey toward the light.
I started reading.
Arguments for God.
Christian apologetics.
Podcasts about faith.
Trying to piece it together — with a mind that had always questioned everything, doubted everything, overthought everything.
And then the Lord led me to Scripture.
Not as a historical text.
Not as a moral rulebook.
But as living truth.
As I searched for Jesus he moved towards me. We met in the Gospels.
I heard Him in Paul’s letters.
Not a distant figure from a Sunday School story — but a living King who had already done everything necessary for me to be His.
It wasn’t about striving.
It wasn’t about being “good enough.”
It was about grace.
His finished work on the Cross.
I’d spent a lifetime thinking I had to reach up to God.
Turns out, God had already reached down to me.
⸻
The Moment of Surrender
One night, quietly, I said a version of the sinner’s prayer.
There were no fireworks.
Just a small, seismic shift inside:
“Jesus, I can’t do this alone. I give You my life.”
And peace — real peace — settled over me.
The next few months weren’t magic.
Life still threw punches.
But I wasn’t alone anymore.
The Holy Spirit had sealed something new inside me.
I could feel it:
A stillness.
A quiet strength.
A joy I couldn’t explain.

The Evidence of New Life
Since that night?
* My health has improved.
* My marriage is stronger.
* Addictions I battled for decades — cigarettes, alcohol, other hidden chains — have been broken.
* I speak publicly now without crippling fear.
* My heart, once heavy with shame and striving, feels light.
Am I perfect?
Far from it.
But I walk differently now — because I don’t walk alone.
Jesus treads every step with me.
And when I stumble, He doesn’t condemn.
He lifts me.
⸻
Why I Chose Baptism
In May 2024, at New Springs City Church Sunderland, I stood before my brothers and sisters in Christ to be baptised.
Not to become perfect.
Not to prove anything.
But to publicly declare:
“The old Brett is buried. The new Brett is alive in Christ.”
Romans 6:4 says it best:
“We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead… we too may live a new life.”
My baptism wasn’t the end of my journey.
It was the beginning of everything new.
⸻
If You’re Hesitating
If you’re reading this and you’re not sure about Jesus yet — I get it.
I questioned everything.
Overthought everything.
But if there’s even the tiniest whisper in your heart saying, “Maybe this is true…”
Listen.
If I’m wrong, all I lost was my shame.
All I gained was love, peace, purpose, and a bunch of beautiful, slightly bonkers people who walk this out with me.
But if I’m right?
Then everything changes.
Because there is a King who loves you.
And He is waiting.
